GIAN (Gujarat Grassroots Innovation Augmentation Network) is the first incubator of grassroots innovations, established in 1997 in collaboration with the Gujarat government and supported by SRISTI, IIMA, and the Honey Bee Network.
OUR MISSION
To cultivate and sustain the spirit of innovation, encourage experimentation, and nurture creativity at the grassroots. GIAN aims to promote innovations from and for grassroots communities, leverage functional traditional knowledge, and conserve and augment biodiversity using both commercial and non-commercial channels.
OUR OBJECTIVES
a) To scout, document and validate the grassroots innovation,
b)help them achieve scale by adding value, design, and other inputs from formal organisations,
c) do market research, develop strategies, protect IP where needed, promote solutions as DIY and facilitate partnerships between innovators and entrepreneurs and
d) unleash the creativity of common people helping them gain respect, recognition, and reward innovations from India and around the world through HBNCRIIA-India and HBN CRIIA-International awards. Gian also pursues research and policy studies.
