Rozadeen’s JP Ustad Coffee Cooker is a brilliant grassroots innovation that brings affordable coffee-making to small vendors and tea stalls.
Rozadeen, from Motihari, Bihar, noticed that while people loved coffee at wedding parties, most didn’t drink it daily because it wasn’t widely available or was too expensive. The electric coffee machines, costing over ₹5000, were out of reach for roadside vendors. He saw an opportunity to create a low-cost, easy-to-use alternative that could help vendors expand their business.
Using a simple pressure cooker, Rozadeen modified it by adding a copper delivery pipe and a steam control valve. The steam generated inside is directed through the pipe into a jug containing coffee powder, milk, and sugar, creating a frothy, cappuccino-like coffee. This modification can be done for just ₹250 on an existing cooker or around ₹750 for an old modified one—making it a game-changer for small businesses.
Built using locally available materials, this affordable coffee maker is easy to use, helps tea stall owners attract more customers, and offers a unique taste different from electric espresso machines. By repurposing old cookers, it also promotes sustainability.
