Innovator Details

During his visits to local veterinary centers, he observed that the local vet did not have any proper operation tables or tools, and the animal had to be restrained by many people causing stress to the sick animal. Ill animals suffered a lot due to paucity of time, distance, and bad roads. So he started working on a small restraining cum operating table that can be easily used in rural areas for small animals.
He fabricated an operation table for small animals from locally available Saagwan (teak) wood. The table can be used to carry out simple medical routines such as vaccination, castration, and administering medicines, particularly for dogs, goats, and pigs. The table is very convenient and designed to comprise a detachable lV drip stand, a compartment for storing surgical instruments, straps to secure the limbs and body, a curved bed for the animal’s comfort, and provision for draining out stool and urine. It can be controlled hydraulically and also provides an option for tilting the operation platform. It weighs just 25 kg and hence can be carried around. The cost of the table was 18,000 rupees.
As well as this small animal restraining table, it functions as an operating table. Imna Meren has also developed a big dummy for artificial insemination, a tapioca slicing machine, and practices different methods of tapioca plantation.
The innovative operating table has received positive feedback from the local community. It was encouraged by the National Research center on Pigs, ICAR. Innovator Imna was awarded a state-level award at the 10th National grassroots innovation awards 2019

Innovation Details

Imna Meren, a 51-year-old innovator from Mokokchung village, Nagaland, started his career as a farmer and a carpenter. He has developed a small animal restraining cum operating table to perform simple medical routines, particularly for dogs, goats, and pigs. GIAN and the Honey Bee Network aided his innovation.
Imna moved to Dimapur in 2012 and started pig farming in search of better opportunities. He was an enthusiast in developing his ideas into workable solutions.
