Prakash likes to keep himself updated in the field of agriculture, and hence he regularly participates in agricultural fairs and meets scientists and agricultural officers. The inspiration for the innovation came from Dr. Mahatim Singh, former professor at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and former vice chancellor of GB Pant, University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT). Dr. Singh motivated Prakash to develop varieties that could be useful for other farmers to increase their yield and improve their livelihood.
Prakash has developed numerous improved high-yielding wheat, paddy, and pigeon pea varieties with the best disease-resistant seeds and good flavors. Prakash developed all these varieties using the simple selection-based method in which specific characteristic features of the plants are observed. The new, improved variety of wheat, paddy, and pigeon pea gives around 27, 30, and 12 quintals per acre of yield, respectively.
He has distributed his variety of seeds to the farmers of almost all the states of India and has received appreciable reports and feedback. He has participated in the National Innovation Foundation’s informal research advisory committee for evaluating technologies for the fourth competition. He has also participated in many agricultural Mila and food festivals that received a great response for his varieties. He was also awarded at the 4th National National Grassroots Innovations and traditional knowledge competition in 2007.
