| Details Of Innovation | Sri. Nallasamy (46) has been owning 16 acres of lands in Athani village. He cultivates sugarcane, turmeric, cotton and tapioca. He incurred substantial loss of income due to chemical farming. He has converted his approach towards organic farming. He introduced organic fertilizers through sprinkler irrigation by mixing with irrigation water for foliar application. Organic Liquid Fertilizer: He prepares organic liquid fertilizer by cow urine 50 litres, cow dung 50 kilo, palm jaggery 1 kilo and mix them thoroughly by adding 500 litres of water in a trough. It is allowed for fermentation for one day. Then the solution is mixed with irrigation water for paddy crop. This will enhance the growth of the crop and also increase the fertility of the soil. Using Panchakavya in Sprinkler irrigation. He has installed sprinkler system of irrigation. He prepares Panchakavya - a liquid fertilizer by taking ingredients viz., cow dung, cow urine, cow milk, cow curd, cow ghee, jaggery and toddy. Panchakavya is mixed with irrigation water at 3 litres per acre. Herbal preparation as insect repellant Oomathai (Datura metel), neem seeds, annona leaves, aloe, notchi leaves, yerukku leaves (Calotropis gigantea), Adathoda leaves (Adathoda vesica ), Peenari sangu (Ailanthes excelsa), are to be smashed and pounded. This is administered with cow urine and kept for one weed. Then, this is filtered; 750 ml of this filtrate is dissolved in 10 litres of water. This solution is sprayed at the rate of 6 tanks per acre for three times. This repels the pests. Naturally enemies survived will kill the pests. By following organic practices, paddy yield has been increased from 20 - 25 bags to 30 - 35 bags in one acre. The cost of cultivation is also Rs. 1500 only for one acre. He feels that the quality of the agricultural produce has also increased. |
