New Plough Design: The descriptions of ploughing instruments / cultivators / seed drill model developed by Sri.Seetharaman are shown below: Plough Designs1. Peria Kalappai (Single Plough): It is 2 feet long and 10" wide and weighs 10 1/2 kg. It is suitable for summer ploughing. For ploughing one acre, it takes 4 hours. It costs Rs.375/-.2. Sowing Plough (Small Plough) It is used at the time of sowing of seeds. It is 11/2 feet long and 9" wide and weighs 7 kilos. It costs Rs.300/-. We can attach 2 small ploughs by using single pair of bullocks. It covers the work of 2 pair of bullocks. We can use this plough even in uncleaned field i.e. stones or bushes. 3. Irattai Kalappai (Two way Plough): This plough can be used in the fields already ploughed by using single plough. It performs 3 functions at the time of sowing: i) Opening the furrow; ii) Sowing the seeds;iii) covering of seeds. This plough can be handled by a single labour with 1 pair of bullocks. It takes two hours for ploughing 1 Acre and 3 hours for sowing operations which is 2-3 times lesser than with ordinary plough model. It costs Rs.650/-. For using this plough, the field should have been ploughed already with one prepatory ploughing. .4. Three way Plough cum Seed Drill Seed sowing, opening of furrow and covering of seeds-all can be performed in line at required distance (usually 1 feet or 3/4 feet). It facilitates sowing mixed crops at definite intervals. We can also place fertilizers in the site of seeds placed in the field. It weighs 22 kg. and costs Rs.660/-.
