Mr. Sundraraman is a 60 year old farmer from Sathyamangalam of Erode District. He completed his Diploma in engineering course in 1963 and took agriculture as his profession to meet family needs. Now he is involved in cultivation of sugarcane, turmeric, maize, fodder crops and coconut by well irrigation. During his initial stages of agriculture he followed inorganic farming. After some years, he understood the negative effects caused by chemicals to the soil such as increasing / decreasing alkalinity/ acidity, reduction of groundwater table and deterioration of soil fertility. After planting sets, organic fertilizers are applied with irrigation water for better germination. He is applying five types of organic fertilizer in a particular method, which is 1. Starter solution2. Panchakavya3. Fermented curd 4. Leaf powder of Usilai ( Albizia amora)5. Mixture of fermented curd and coconut milk.A fortnight interval is given between each application. Preparation methods of fertilizers: Starter solution: 15kg of cowding, 15 litre of cow urine and 100g palmsugar are mixed and immersed in water for 2 days and this solution is applied with irrigattion water. This will be sufficient for 1 acre. Panchakavya: 5 kg of cowdung, cow urine 5 litre, 2 litre curd (fermented for 15 days), 2 litre of milk, 1/2 litre ghee, 1/2 kg of jaggery and water of 2 tender coconuts are mixed well allowed to fermentation for 15 days. Two litre of panchakavya is mixed with 100 litre of water and sprayed on the crop or applied along with irrigation channels. This solution gives resistance from pests and diseases and crop growth is stimulated.Leaf powder of Albizia amara: Three kg of leaf powder is sufficient for 1 acre. Mixture of fermented curd and coconut milk 5 litre of fermented curd is added with coconut milk extracted from 5 nuts and allowed to ferment for 1 week. It can be sprayed for 1 acre.
