| Ingredients | He uses iron wheels along with iron pipe (lodhia) 2 inch in diameter and 54 inches long, an iron pipe of diameter 1.5 feet, two pieces of iron of length 12 inches to make gareda, a rap, and two pieces of diameter 21 inches to make a circular dadda. |
| Details Of Innovation | Ratilalbhai Davada tried out various alternatives to the conventional methods of harvesting the groundnut crop. First, he used a wooden wheel (dhhela) on the hoe, this allowed the santi to rise and fall, however the bullock had to apply a lot of pressure which resulted in the dhhela breaking up. After that he made wooden wheels (called gareda) which again did not work. Thereafter, he used iron wheels along with iron pipe (lodhia) 2 inch in diameter and 54 inches long, an iron pipe of diameter 1.5 feet, two pieces of iron of length 12 inches to make gareda, a 36 length rap, two pieces of diameter 21 inches to make round shape (dadda). It took him about fifteen days to complete. According to farmers, if the groundnut crop needs to be taken out completely, the following steps need to be followed: The attached rap removes the groundnut and the rings of barbed wire that are attached to the rap pull out the remaining groundnut in the soil. In case some groundnuts remain in the soil, a fawada is attached to the rap to remove them. He sold around 250 to 300 of these implements in the village and adjoining villages. While they now cost Rs.4500 each, at the time of first selling these implements, they cost Rs.1500 each. He also mentioned that the first order of the four Garedas were given by a single family of four agriculturists. They were satisfied regarding the performance of this implement. They stated that this new implement was well suited to the local soil type. |
