Ingredients Besharam (Ipomeae fistulosa), water
Details Of Innovation The use of Ipomea fistulosa is extensive in the area near Valiya (in the district of Bharuch) where these plants can be found in abundance. However, this species is scattered throughout India. It grows on roadsides, low-lying areas and on farm boundaries. In the preparation of the pesticide, 5kg. of the leaves of the Besharam (Ipomeae fistulosa) plant are boiled in a container having 50 lt.s of water till it reduces to half its volume i.e 25 litres. Later 2.5 kg. of leaves are further added and boiled. Then 60gm.s of Zinc sulphate and 480 gm.s of soap are added to the resultant solution before spraying on the crops. The many uses of this plant increase its potential as a herbal product. The herbal pesticide is used extensively in the cotton and pigeon pea crops in the months of October and November.

PAS 3 "The four medicinal plants reduced the mean leaf area consumed by 7day old larvae in the order M.indica (4.88cm2 )>B.orellana (6.07cm2 )>A.chinensis (10.06cm2 )>C.procera (15.34cm2 ). B.orellana was most toxic showing 96.66% terminal larval mortality. M.indica leaves showed a visible effect on the ecdysis and development of insects. The insects fed on M.indica leaves were not able to moult into the next instar and finally died. M.indica and B.orellana were most toxic as natural botanical control agents in limiting the insect population. C.procera and A.chinensis were also detrimental to S.litura 7 day old larvae showing 56.66 and 70% adult emergence. All the medicinal plants were effective in controlling the growth and development of S.litura." Other Community Practices "Two kg of neem seeds are ground well and diluted with water and then filtered. To this filtrate, ten kg of fresh cow dung is mixed thoroughly. This is sufficient for spraying on one acre of land by adding required quantity of water to stop flower dropping” https://honeybee.org/honeybee_detailed.php?ID=12165&page=4&search_case=flower%20drop
