| Details Of Innovation | Root rot damages mango tree (Mangifera indica) more in the monsoon than in the other seasons. The disease affects the roots and the plant dies. The disease is often seen when the plant is one-and-a-half to two years of age. To circumvent root rot, Vasanjibhai Gayakwad takes precautions even before planting mango. During the summer, pits of 2.5x1.5 are dug in the farm where mango or other horticulture plants are to be planted. Then garbage is filled in the pit and burnt. In the next stage, about 1 to 1.5 kg organic manure is filled in the pit. When it rains, pieces of (Euphorbia neriifolia) are put in the pits and only then mango or other horticulture saplings are planted. The planting has to be done keeping six-feet distance between two plants.(Euphorbia neriifolia) is a thorny plant with thick and long leaves. It exudes white milky juice. Its trunk and branches are green and turn white when very ripe. It produces yellow flowers. |
