| Details Of Innovation | Manubhai cultivates chick pea (Cicer arientium), wheat (Tritivum aestivum), sorghum (Sorghum vulgare), cotton (Gossypium herbaceum) and other crops without using chemical pesticides or fertilizers. Also he relies entirely on rain for irrigation. He has surrounded his fields with solid bunds for the purpose of water retention. When his chickpea crop is attacked by caterpillars, he sprays a bio-pesticide developed from the neem tree. He attends without fail any lecture or camp on agriculture. The idea of using bio-pesticide in farming came to him when he attended a programme called National Tree Neem. He refined the idea by reading up available literature on the subject. |
