| Details Of Innovation | The disease of leaf curl is also known locally as kanjaro and dokamaradiyu. This disease is commonly observed in chilli, brinjal and tomato crop. Its severe incidence is known to occur in chilli. Insects/pests suck the sap from the leaves and the tender branches of the crop. As a result, the leaves curl down and form a sort of pipe. The major attack of the disease is observed at about 45 50 days of sowing of the crop. More than 40 per cent of the villagers have been using this practice for the past 20 years. The practice is followed by more than 40 per cent of the villagers.Initially villagers used to spray butter milk and bajara flour. But then they came to know about the insecticidal property of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) an started to follow the practice of using tobacco snuff. There is no care or rules to follow while implementing this practice. There is no other similar practice prevalent in the nearby/surrounding villages. |
