Details Of Innovation	A very minute, hair-like and reddish insect known locally as "talkidi" infests the roots of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) plants and gradually destroy 70 - 80 % of standing crop by eating away the roots. Farmers in this region are using an innovative method to control this pest. They fill 10 kg onion (Allium cepa) bulbs in one gunny bag per 0.40 ha of crop and thrash the bag. The bag is then placed in the irrigation channel at various points. The farmers believe that the intense juice of onion seeps into the soil with irrigation and destroys the pest, thereby saving the crop.
