Details Of Innovation	To control the infestation of whiteflies in sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum), farmers of this area adopt the following method. Onion (Allium cepa) bulbs are filled in a sack and then thrashed with a baton till they turn to watery mash. The juice of onion thus obtained is used to treat sugarcane stem cuttings or setts at the sowing time. The rest of the material is laid in irrigation channels when watering, killing the whitefly and its larvae. Farmers believe that using this method controls 75-85 % of whitefly. This method was used 50 years back when there were no chemical insecticides, but now only 5-10% of farmers use it.
