Although herbal initiatives have been made particularly to control afflictions on the cotton (Gossypium herbaceum) crop, these have not been effective enough to stem the rot, blight, boll, worm, and other pests found on the crop. Even so, some cotton growers have sought to come out with one cure for all cotton problems. But these have had a percentage of success and not been conclusive cures. So the firefighting approach for each pest goes on, even as the pests become resistant to pesticides and insecticides available in the market. One such herbal initiative is by Babubhai P Valabhai, who seeks to blunt the leaf blight or red blight problem. According to this innovator farmer, when cotton (Gossypium herbaceum) crop is affected with bacterial leaf blight disease, a mixture of sour buttermilk or whey and water must be sprayed to control it. The spraying has to be done two times a week for effective control . As cotton growers might say, some control is better than no cure at all.
