| Details Of Innovation | Karnabhai Patel of Gujarat believes in ash to ash and dust to dust method. If onion (Allium cepa) leaves become slightly yellowish and develop white patches on both bottom and top sides of the leaf, it is time to act. This is because the leaf starts withering and eventually the plant may die. To treat the condition, Karnabhai chooses the morning, when there is dew on the plants. At the hour, he sprinkles ash on onion plants. Due to the dew, the ash sticks to the top of the leaf. In each bigha, 15 to 20 kilogram ash is required. Ash is sprinkled so as to spread all over the farm. In six to seven days, the white patches on the leaves are visbly reduced. First, the white patches are noticed on the bottom side of the leaves and later on top. The ash treatment will reduce the white patches to dust, so opines Karnabhai. This method is self-developed by the farmer. Farmers in Mehsana villages are following it . |
