Bhikalal Vajabhai Gajere discovered that the placenta of the cow or buffalo is useful as a fertilizer, particularly for the sapota crop. He may have discovered it by accident but then there it is. There is apparently no end to man's ingenuity. Bhikalal buries the placenta of the cow and buffalo after parturition in the root-zone of the sapota tree. However, the placenta is not easy to come by. According to the innovator-farmer, when he does get the placenta once in two to three years per cow or buffalo, he earnestly buries it in soil around the sapota root zone. The result is a healthy chikoo crop which is bigger and better.
