Protection of Rice Crops from Grasshopper

Details

Category Crop Production
Crop Rice
Crop Family Poaceae
Scientific Name (Oryza sativa)
Vernacular Name Paddy, Rice, Chavall, Bhaat
Scout HBN
Ingredients Leaves of Lasiosiphon eriocephalus
Details Of Innovation According to the information given by farmer Shri.B.N.Dinesh, the leaves of Lasiosiphon eriocephalus are very effectve in arrestng the damage caused by grasshoppers in rice fields. Take one kilogram of juice from the leaves of this tree and heat it in water for ten minutes. Then the solution is filtered and sprayed on the plants in the ratio of 1:10. This solution is sprayed first when the seedling is grown and then for the second time when it is sown. According to Nepralert database, Lasiosiphon eriocephalus is effective against insects.

PAS 1 "Oils of plant origin are readily available and can be used in small amounts as adjuvants in tank-mix pesticide formulations. However, edible oils and petrochemical oils may be too expensive to consider for large-scale agricultural use. Castor oil, which is non-edible and abundant in several countries including Brazil, may be very useful in agricultural programs. Our experimental results indicate that the castor oil-based detergent applied on strawberry crops, in conjunction with well-known and established pesticides, can be a useful alternative due to its properties of low phytotoxicity to many plant species and to the fact that its residues break down rapidly through microbial action in the environment, translating into safety for humans and the environment." PAS 2 "Plants can defend themselves against the attack of aphids by producing secondary metabolites that can be used to control these insects. Ricinuscommunis is an interesting plant species with documented insecticidal activity (Rana et al. 2012)." https://www.researchgate.net/publication/288446898_Ricinus_communis_L_-_A_review
PAS 3 "Identified so far for their insecticidal property and can be used as an alternative pest management for synthetic pesticides. The present investigation was conducted to evaluate the insecticidal activity of prosopisjuliflora against termite (Odontotermesobesus) and cockroach (Blattellagermanica). The n-hexane extract of the proposed plant showed higher percentage mortality at 10 % concentration in 30 and 42 hours against termite and cockroach, respectively. The LD 50 was determined to be 0.472% and 1.07% for termite and cockroach, respectively after 23 hours. The proposed plant showed significant insecticidal activity at 0.005% level of confidence. From the present investigation, it can be suggested that prosopisjuliflora can be used as potential insecticide" [Tura, Alemu&Tafese, Terefe. (2015).
