Usually, it is slit using an old cloth or a pincer. Elephant foot yam (Amorphophallus campanulatus) is studded with black and white spots on it, giving it a snake-like appearance. Fearing presence of snake, rats do not come near paddy crop. This way paddy (Oryza sativa) crop is protected. This is a traditional practice used for 50 years by 70% of villages. This is a ready to use and inexpensive practice.
