| Details Of Innovation | Leaf curl disease in rose (Rosa indica) plant shows symptoms like curling of leaf, stunting of plant and prevention of flowering. The same is observed in chilli (Capsicum annum), brinjal (Solanum melongena) and tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum ) crops. This is viral disease transmitted by sucking insect pest so called veetors of viral diseases. To control the spread of this disease, 100 g fruits of soap nut (Sapindus emarginatus) are soaked in water for two to three days and juice is extracted. The extract is then filtered using a piece of cloth. The filterate thus obtained is then sprayed on the disease-affected crop at the interval of 2-3 days for 10 days. This helps to control leaf curl disease in roses. There is no side-effect of this treatment. According to Dr. Valand, (Pathologist from Anand Agriculture University) thrips acts as a vector, which spreads the disease. The extract of soap nut is recommended for control of earthworms in the seed bed of tobacco. White powder of soap nut when mixed with wheat for storage, prevents the store grain pests. As per Dr. Korats (Entomologist from Anand Agriculture University), the sprayed solution of soap nut spreads on the leaf of the crop, which does not allow the sucking pest to feed, thus, preventing the spread of disease from plant to plant and field to field. |
