Details Of Innovation Cumin (Cuminum cyminum) is an important cash crop which gives good economic returns to the farmers. Generally in northern Gujarat, farmers cultivate this crop in winter. Dry areas are now exploited for the cultivation of this crop. One of the major porblems in cumin cultivation is uneven germination. To overcome this problem, seed beds are prepared and seeds are broadcasted on them Harrow is moved on the beds which buries the cumin seed up to the depth of two inches. This helps in the even and early germination of seeds. Previously, wooden blocks were used after broadcasting of the seeds. The main drawback of this practice is, the wooden block does not bury all the seeds in the soil and they remain on the surface, which prevents proper germination. In other cases, seeds get deeply buried and so the seedlings die inside the soil. And in uneven soil, the wooden block cannot work efficiently. The harrow helps to break cloads, which facilitates the easy germination of seed.
