Details Of Innovation Vines of bitter gourd (Momordica charantia) and ridge gourd (Luffa acutangula) are planted together. Here, bitter gourd acts as a scion while ridge gourd acts as a stock plant. At the time of flowering of ridge gourd, the vine is cut at one feet of the base and on that, branch of bitter gourd is grafted by using of wedge graft method. After grafting, wet soil is plastered at the sight of the graft and then tied with a cloth. It is kept wet for 15 to 20 days. This process helps in the joining of two plants. Such grafted plants give long fruits of bitter gourd and if the seeds from this plant are sown again for further multiplication, they also give improved yield withe better taste.
