Details Of Innovation Muljibhai Patel is a 60 year old farmer staying in Kabhaina Na Muwada village of Kapadwanj talukain the Kheda district of Gujarat. He suggests the use of kharasdi or phyllantho urinaria for protection of vegetables and other crops from worms. Local villagers know this insect as krumi. This insects attack the crops after they are two to three months old. They spread underground and eat awy the roots. The stems turn black and dry up. Muljibhai Patel plants kharasdi or phyllantho urinaria around the affected plant to protect them from termites.  He has known this traditional method for 40 years and had learnt it from Punjahai Becharbhai who is no more. He had tried this method for mangoes, chickoo and berries. Other farmers who have used this method: Govindbhai Dharmabhai Patel, Ramanbhai Haribhai Patel and Ganpatbhai Ramanbhai Patel.

PAS 1 "Insecticidal activities of methanol and water extracts, obtained from in vitro propagation of Ceratophyllumdemersum L. on maize weevil, SitophiluszeamaisMotschulsky (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) were laboratory studied. In vitro whole plant regeneration was obtained from nodal explants of C. demersum cultured on liquid Murashige and Skoog medium (MS) treated with various combinations of 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP) and 1-Naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA). Different concentrations (2.5, 5, 10 and 20 mg/ml) of C. demersum extracts were tested. The highest mortality (100%) caused were determined by both extracts at the concentrations of 10 and 20 mg/ml after 96 h of exposure. LC50 of methanol and water extracts after 96 h were 1.720 and 1.015 mg/ml, respectively. It was detected that mortality was correlated with concentration and exposure time. These findings suggest that C. demersum extract could be considered as an effective biocontrol agent and be used as an alternative to chemical insecticides. PAS 3 "By this, the two aquatic plants, especially Ceratophylumdemersum have been identified under natural conditions to be good sequesters of pesticides and agents of improving quality of lake water and therefore reducing the health hazard that may be associated with its potable use by the riparian communities. The phytoremediative ability of aquatic plants must therefore be appreciated and considered as an option in decontamination processes in aquatic media. [S. S.
