Hepatoprotective activity of Luffa echinata fruitsThe different extracts of the fruits of Luffa echinata Roxb.(Cucurbitaceae) were tested for their hepatoprotective activityagainst CCl(4) induced hepatotoxicity in albino rats. The degree ofprotection was measured by using biochemical parameters likeserum glutamic oxalacetic transaminase (SGOT), serum glutamicpyruvate transaminase (SGPT), alkaline phosphatase (ALKP), totalprotein (TP) and total albumin (TA). The petroleum ether, acetoneand methanolic extracts showed a significant hepatoprotectiveactivity comparable with those of Silymarin.
