These leaves are chewed along with a pinch of common salt and then the juice in the mouth is spit into the eye of the animal. Two days of this treatment results in reduced pain for the animal. Leaves of these two plants are available round the year. For all its element of surprise, the practice is a traditional one. See Honey Bee 8(1):15, 1997 for another treatment for corneal opacity “In Banaskantha, To cure this problem Ishverbhai takes a potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), rubs it on a clean stone and collects the juice. He filters the juice through a cheese cloth and administers it into the eyes of the animals twice a day for 7 to 10 days. The method has no side effects. Ishverbhai is 33 years old. He is an animal healer and has gained this knowledge from his forefathers. Potatoes contain a number of important vitamins and minerals including vitamin C and B6, potassium, thiamin, riboflavin, folate, niacin, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, and zinc, and are known to have a large number of therapeutic effects.
