| Community Practices | “In Himachal Pradesh for treating yoke gall uses kaner (Nerium oleander L.) for treating yoke gall. Yoke galls get formed by the constant rubbing of heavy wooden yoke against the animal’s neck and shoulders. Galls pain and get infected too. He applies the decoction of kaner leaves and bark topically on gall two times a day for two to three days. “In Mehsana, a mixture of black powder from dry-cell battery and oil is applied to galls on the neck that are caused by the yoke. In other cases, Buharo (Byttneria herbacea) leaves are chewed into a paste by the farmer and then applied. The treatment is repeated twice per day for two to three days or until the gall is healed. |

| Disease Description | A yoke gall is a localized acute inflammation of the skin and subcutis on the neck of cattle or bullock due to constant friction caused by the yoke. Yoke gall is one of the most common abscesses observed in draught purpose bullocks and buffalo bulls. The yoke gall is a common condition seen especially in those animals used for carting. |
