Practice Name:

Biological Trap For Crop Protection

Details

Category Crop Pest & Disease Management
Scout HBN
Ingredients Maize seeds
Details Of Innovation 100-150 g maize seeds per acre are sown in the fields of pigeonpea. These are grown randomly in the field to invite the birds to eat the cob of maize. This practice attracts birds to the field to feed on the grains. After a few days, the limited stock of maize cobs would be exhausted. Thereafter, the birds sit on the maize plants in search of alternate food. In such situations they find insect larvae on pigeonpea and pick it up as food. Thus larval population is minimized by predatory birds- they serve as a biological trap.
