| Details Of Innovation | Farmers in the arid hilly areas of Banaskantha district use another method which is locally known as Gariu. Soil of this area is undulating and sandy. They collect the leaves and branches of Khakhra (Butea monosperma) tree from the hills during summer season and spread it over the entire field. These leaves and branches are set on fire before the onset of monsoon adding the ash to the soil. Farmers believe that soil properties like water holding-capacity, and the smoothness are improved with this treatment. |
