Shri Balwan Singh has developed an onion variety based on the selection method which he followed for ten consecutive years. The selection was done based on large bulb size & shape with a tightly attached dark red colored skin. • Its yield is about 350 q/ha, has good thickness of rings, has tolerance to stem phylium blight and moderate pungency. • Its dark red colored globular shaped bulb is about 5 cm diameter, neck thickness is 0.8 cm and 50-60 g weigh;t appears more attractive than the conventional ones with firm, bright red colored, mild pungent bulb with average yield 200 (q/ha). • Less infestation of pest and diseases.
