| Details Of Innovation | Green manuring for sugarcane During plowing, farmyard manure is applied, and many crop seeds are sown before planting setts. Many crop seeds includes: Four types of pulses. Four types of millets. Two types of oilseeds. Two types of aromatic crop. On the 60th day, germinated crops are plowed by tractor, and inter-plowing is done in 2 feet gap. On the 60th day of planting of setts, earthing up is done. Then one more sowing of many crop seeds is undertaken in the irrigation channels. On the 60th day of sowing, these plants are uprooted and placed at the base of the plant. Mulching The leftover trashes after the crop harvest and at the time of detrashing are placed and spread on the soil surface as mulching material in the alternate rows with a breadth of 2-3 feet. By following this practice, the total water requirement of the crop is reduced to 50% of the actual requirement because alternate rows are irrigated. Organic manure for sugarcane After planting sets, organic fertilizers are applied with irrigation water for better germination. He is applying five types of organic fertilizer 1. Starter solution 2. Panchakavya 3. Fermented curd 4. Leaf powder of Usilai ( Albizia amora) 5. Mixture of fermented curd and coconut milk. A fortnight interval is given between each application. Preparation methods of fertilizers Starter solution: 15kg of crowding, 15 liters of cow urine, and 100g palm sugar are mixed and immersed in water for two days, and this solution is applied with irrigation water. This will be sufficient for 1 acre. Panchakavya: 5 kg of cow dung, cow urine 5 liters, 2-liter curd (fermented for 15 days), 2 liters of milk, 1/2 liter ghee, 1/2 kg of jaggery, and water of 2 tender coconuts are mixed well allowed to fermentation for 15 days. 2 liters of panchakavya is mixed with 100 liters of water and sprayed on the crop or applied along with irrigation channels. This solution gives resistance to pests and diseases, and crop growth is stimulated. Leaf powder of Albizia Amara: 3 kg of leaf powder is sufficient for 1 acre. A mixture of fermented curd and coconut milk 5 liters of fermented curd is added with coconut milk extracted from 5 nuts and fermented for one week. It can be sprayed for 1 acre. Protection of turmeric seed material Seeds are immersed in 2% panchakavya solution for 15 minutes before storage for protection from scale insects. For better germination and growth, seeds are soaked in panchagavya solution before one week of sowing. He is cultivating Kasthoori manjal ( Curcuma aromatica) in his land (which is grown well in agroclimatic conditions of Kerala and used for medicinal purposes. He is also raising maize crops by using these organic fertilizers, liquid solutions very successfully. |
