Mr. Dodhi Pathak is 48 years old and resides in the village of Sandheli, in the Nalbari district of Assam. He is a craftsman and also a gifted flute player. He has created various items of necessity using bamboo. He firmly believes in the adage: Necessity is the mother of invention. Having suffered acute privation in childhood, his faith in his ability to innovate was reinforced. He has a whole list of innovations to his credit including a bamboo hand-pump, a bamboo cycle and bambo teeth among other devices/objets dart. He has developed a working model of a hand pump that is suitable for lifting both underground water and pond water. Every part of this pump including the piston, valve, barrel, and handle is made from bamboo.
