Details Of Innovation Nathabhai has obtained the engine, body of Bajaj scooter and some other parts from the scrap dealer for agricultural operations in his farm. To this machine, he fitted` a scooter wheel on the front side and a rickshaw wheel at the back. There are total three teeth made up of iron at the backside. To move, up and down, a gear has been fitted by the seat, which is connected to a spring. This gear provides friction and prevents harrow from shaking. In the rear side, four wheels are fitted, which saves the tractor from toppling down. Here, the seedlings have been planted at a distance of 36 inch of each other. Secondly, wheel has been fitted at a distance of two inches from the rear wheel. The internal distance is 30 inches. With this distance, entire tractor can be drawn in the furrow. This tractor can plough three inches deep into the soil. The farmer informs that the tractor can be operated successfully on the field till crop attains two month's age. In this engine, farmer has reduced the RPM, by which its power got increased. Because of this, it does not get into the soil and runs on two directions. In addition, this can be used to spread manure in two furrows. It can be operated by kick starting. While first starting, petrol is used and thereafter it is run on regular kerosene basis. In 0.24 ha of land, one litre of petrol or kerosene is required for seedlings planted at a distance of 36 inches from each other. This equipment has been effectively used on cotton (Gossypium hirsutum), funnel (Foeniculum vulgare), chilli (Capsicum annuum) and orchard crops as 70 mango trees (Mangifera indica) and sapota trees (Achras zapota) are grown in 0.65 ha of land. The total expenditure in making this tractor is about Rs.12000 to Rs.13000/-. The farmer himself has developed this tractor.
