Details Of Innovation For long-term storage of grains, Ratnabhai Charpot has an effective herbal practice. He takes one kilogram leaves of wind killer (Chlorodendron phlomidis) and extracts juice from those. He has an exact proportion for mixing the juice and the grain. About 500 millilitre of this herbal juice is mixed with 20 kilogram of the grain. Thus the quantity of juice to be extracted depends upon the quintals of the grain to be stored. The mixed grain is then dried in the shade before filling up the containers in which it is to be stored. The stored grain is not spoiled for nearly two years. Farmers generally use this practice, which has no side-effects. The wind killer tree called "khatannee" by the people of Panchmahals has palm-sized and rough leaves. The wood of the tree is used by the people for making "hukka" pipes, as it is hollow. Its flowers are white in colour.
