| Details Of Innovation | Ball worm is a major threat to the cotton crop. It damages the balls and the leaves by feeding on to it. Around 50% of the pesticide produced in the world is utilized for the control of cotton ball worms only. The use of such a vast amount of pesticide in cotton has posed a environmental threat. To overcome this problem, 500 g of garlic (Allium astivum), 500 g chilli (Capsicum annum), one kilogram neem (Azadirachta indica) seeds or leaves of neem (Azadirachta indica) are boiled together in 5 L water. Reduce it to half. Filter the mixture. The filtrate thus obtained is used as stock solution for the spray. Use 60 ml of the stock solution in one pump of 15 L and spray it on the cotton crop (Gossypium herbaceum) infested with ball worm. Two sprays at the interval of 15 days are enough for the control of this pest. Results can be visualized within a week. Precaution must be taken to maintain the spray interval and the dose. Any change in dose or frequency leads to flower drop in the cotton crop. This is traditional practice used for last five years. |
