Controlling Aphids in Cotton Crop

Details

Category Crop Protection
Crop Cotton
Crop Family Malvaceae
Scientific Name (Gossypium spp.)
Vernacular Name Kapas
Scout HBN
Ingredients buttermilk, cow urine, water
Details Of Innovation "Madhia" is the condition in which a honeydew-like sticky substance is secreted by a sucking insect pest called aphid (Aphis gossypii), which is deposited on the leaves of cotton (Gossypium herbaceum) plants. A black sooty mould develops on this secretion. This makes the leaves look blackish and shiny. To prevent this condition from spreading in the field, one-litre buttermilk and one-litre cow urine are mixed together. Add it to 15-litre water. The solution is prepared one day prior to actual spraying. It is sprayed on the "madhia"-affected cotton crop. This controls the pest soon. This is a traditional practice used for the last 10 years. Almost all farmers in Kheda villages use this practice for the control of "madhia" in cotton.
