| Details Of Innovation | Poison bait is an important weapon in the rat control programme. One bait is prepared using non-chemical ingredients. To prepare this bait, an extract of 500 gram green leaves of "fudamati" plant is mixed with cooked rice (Oryza sativa). The bait is then kept in the pathway of the rats, nearer to its burrow. To make it more appealing, few groundnuts (Arachis hypogaea) are placed on this bait. The rat prefers to eat groundnuts and with it consumes the bait, too. Those rats that have taken the bait die due to the poison. Seeing the dead rat, the other rats flee the field. Thus rat menace is controlled. This is a self-developed practice of Pratapbhai Chauhan. Being non-chemical, the bait does not cause any environmental hazards. The practice has been in use for the last two years. |
