The Kashmir valley witnesses heavy snow along with snowfall during the winter months from December to February, closing major roads and bringing mobility to a halt. Heavy snow cutter machines/vehicles are used to clean the roads, and depending on the level of snow, the process can take around 2 to 3 days. While it is easier to clean the arterial roads, the narrow paths are left with snow, which reduces mobility and sometimes even leads to people falling and getting fractures. Locals usually clean out these paths with spades; however, this is a cumbersome task and would be better performed with a mini-machine. However, with no such solution available in the market, Aabid Rehman Dar came up with the idea of a mini snow remover. Agriculture comes to a close in Kashmir during the winter months and the mini tiller machines used to plough the fields remain idle. Aabid decided to modify the tillers and use them as snow remover machines. To do this, he added an attachment to the tiller that could plough the snow from the roads. The attachment is fitted in the front of the tiller and is detachable – it can be attached or detached using 2 bolts, taking upto 2 minutes.
The device comprises of a curved shovel blade having 48 inches of curved width. It can clean the snow from 36 inches of snow from the surface of in just one go. The whole device remains unchanged in its design & operational activity which adds novelty to this innovation.
